Alan J. Perkins, 55, of Pittsfield died March 7 at the CRVNH Hospice House in Concord. Alan was best known as a great lover of life. He was passionate about creating a sense of adventure, beauty and decadence whether it was tubing Tuckermans Ravine, parading in Rio at Carnival, collecting Japanese pottery, raising Russian Wolfhounds or trolling the woods in search of Lady Slippers. Throughout his life, Alan channeled his creative energy and intellect in many capacities including co-owning a flower store in Newington, NH, designing commercial HVAC units, mastering the art of faux painting and consulting on home and landscape renovation. Alan was born in Concord, the son of John and Eleanor Perkins. He grew up in Pittsfield and later resided in Boston, MA and Miami, FL. A graduate of Pittsfield High in 1967, he attended St. Marys College in Moraga, CA and later received his bachelors degree in political science and economics from the University of New Hampshire in 1972. In addition to his legion of friends he is survived by, sisters Deborah of Atlanta, GA, Susan Drouin of Gilford, NH and Mary of Boston, MA; brothers Paul of St. Thomas, USVI and Jack of Hartland, VT; nieces Alyssa and Emily; and nephew, Jake. A service will be held at 11:00 on March 14 at the Congregational Church in Pittsfield. In lieu of flowers, Alan asked that friends and family make a gesture of kindness toward someone in need.
