Alfred E. Slack, 93, of West Fairlee, Vermont died October 14, 2002 at Cottage Hospital in Woodsville after a short illness. Mr. Slack was born on October 16, 1908 in Worcester, MA son of the late Fred and May (Warren) Slack. He attended North High School in Worcester and Worcester Boys Trade School. He was U S Army veteran and served during World War II where he was technical sergeant. He was in the five armored division and landed at Utah Beach and also went to Battle of the Bulge where he was awarded the Bronze Star for Meritorious Service. Mr. Slack retired after 28 years from Heald Machine Company in Worcester. He moved to Vermont in 1973 and was the holder of the West Fairlee Cane as the town's oldest resident. He enjoyed fishing and gardening and spending time at his cottage on the lake. Family members include; his wife of 53 years, Barbara (Green) Slack; one brother, Bradley Slack of Worcester, MA; and several nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by three sisters, Ruth Jackson, Kathleen Spence and Vena Beebe. There will be a committal service on Saturday, October 19th at 10:00 AM at Post Mill Cemetery with a reception to follow at the Post Mills Church. .
