Alice Gilmore Alusic

Alice Gilmore Alusic passed peacefully at sunset on Saturday September 11th at Community Hospice Home in Merrimack, NH surrounded by her family.
Born in Bristol, CT to Edgar Joseph Gilmore and Luella Angenette (Miner) Gilmore of Farmington, CT, she graduated from Farmington High School and Central Connecticut State College, New Britain.
She taught 6th grade in Simsbury and Hartford, taking a break to serve in the Peace Corps. In Peru she taught English as a second language, as well as initiating small community activities. At the time she left she was working to get the Food for Peace program into poor communities, and was developing sewing lessons for the local women.
She relocated to Cambridge, MA where she met her first husband, Richard King now of Blossburg, PA. They had two children, Matthew Jeremy King now of Beverly, MA, and Caryn-Amy Elizabeth (King) Rose of Watertown, MA.
While raising her children in Holliston, MA, she served on the Holliston school committee. She served on, and sometimes chaired, various civic groups including PTSA and the board of her condo association.
She was secretary and translator for Graphics Export Corporation, who reconditioned printing machinery and sold mostly in Latin America. She also worked for Combustion Engineering, working her way from secretary to field sales, helping develop a profitable after-market parts sales program.
In 1997 she married Donald Joseph Alusic, of Amherst, NH, and relocated there. She was active in First Church of Christ, Scientist, Milford and was also a member of Souhegan Valley Chorus, the Historical Society of Amherst, the Friends of the Amherst Library book group, WMD-Women Making a Difference, and had recently joined the Souhegan Valley Quilters Guild.
She adopted and fostered rescued greyhounds and also supported nature and animal rights organizations.
In addition to her steadfast and deeply loving and loved husband and her two children, she dearly loves her daughter in law, Kristen Young, and Kristen’s sons Alex and Nathan Ela; Jeffrey Schindler, fiancé of Caryn-Amy Rose (and already a devoted family member); Lorin Alusic of Dorchester, MA; Erika Alusic-Bingham and her husband Michael of Antrim, NH, granddaughter Kelly Bingham of West Hartford, CT, and grandchildren Aidan and Malin, with whom she was blessed to spend so much time.
She leaves her heart with grandson Corey Matthew YoungKing.
With love and laughter she remembers her siblings, Elizabeth Tinson of Rockville, CT, Emerson Gilmore and his wife Judy, of Hebron, CT, Cynthia Vibert and husband James of Cheshire, CT, and Roberta Carol Gilmore of Woodstock, VT. She also leaves 8 nieces and nephews, several cousins, and their children.
She makes special mention of her two Maine coon cats: Dandelion and Miss Kitty.
She blesses all those who have graced her life with their friendship and love.
A celebration service was held at The First Congregational Church Parish House 10 Union Street, Milford, NH on Friday September 17th at 1 p.m.
