Alice Marie Boss

Alice Marie Boss, 75, went to meet her Lord on Nov. 3rd, 2003 at the Community Hospice House in Merrimack NH. Alice, better known as "Tillie" or "Grammy" Boss was a friend to all and never met a stranger. She was born in East Millinocket, ME, on Feb. 1st 1928, the daughter of Linn and Ruth (Ramsdell) Dyer. She grew up in East Millinocket, graduating with honors from Schenck High School in 1946. She married Arthur R. Boss, Jr. in 1946 and began a warm and compassionate career as a mother to her beloved family. As an avid sports fan, Tillie could be found following the competitions of the Schenck Wolverines in Maine and cheering on her "girls" of the Pinkerton Academy Astros in New Hampshire. While residing in East Millinocket, Tillie engaged herself in the activities of the First Congregational Church, serving on the Missions Committee and as President of the Ladies Aid Society. She also enjoyed years of involvement with the TOPS organization. Tillie's love for children was evident in her role as a highly sought-after babysitter once her own boys were grown and gone. Grammy Boss was well recognized throughout the State of New Hampshire following the exploits of her grandchildren as they competed in swimming events and fast-pitch softball competition. Grammy Boss's feverish rooting of the Pinkerton Astros softball team resulted in her designation as their number one fan, a title she proudly adorned. Tillie is survived by her husband Arthur of Manchester; Louis Edward Boss of Phoenix, Arizona; Donald and Eloise Boss of Fremont, New Hampshire; Jerre and Louisa Boss of Atlanta, Georgia; and niece Anne Jipson of Ellsworth. Six grandchildren also survive her: Chris, Julie, Michelle, Sarah, Anna and Adam Boss and great-grandchildren. Tillie was known and loved for her generous heart. Family and many special friends will miss her. Three sisters: Ruth Hooper, Edith MacDonald and Thelma Gordon, and a brother, Stanley "Red" Mills, predeceased her. Friends may call from 1-2 Friday at the First Congregational Church in East Millinocket, followed by services at 2 p.m. Friday with childhood friend Pauline "Billie" Farrington presiding over the service.
