Alice was born in Trenton, New Jersey, the daughter of George and Rozelle (Coleman) Jones. She grew up in Nantucket, Massachusetts and graduated from high school in the class of 1945. She went on to Massachusetts Memorial Hospital in the Cadet Nurse program to become a Registered Nurse.

Her nursing career over the years included working as a nurse in the Massachusetts Memorial Hospital, Nantucket Cottage Hospital, Mary Hitchcock Hospital in Hanover, NH, the Rehabilitation Center in Boston, White Pines College in Chester, NH and her last 20 years at Maple Leaf Health Care Center in Manchester, NH.

She married Edward Allen Folger on October 15, 1949 in Nantucket. They had two daughters, Martha and Anne. Then she married Robert Sanford Knapp on July 23, 1960, also in Nantucket. They had one daughter, Carolyn.

The Knapp family moved to Chester, NH in 1965. Alice and Bob built their house. Bob blasted the granite so they could have a foundation. Alice was the architect. With the exception of the frame, roof and plastering, Bob and Alice did the rest.

They were both active church members and Alice continued after Bob’s death in 2014. They had travelled in Ecuador, Europe, Russia and the Ukraine.

Alice interests were reading, knitting and making puzzles. Besides making baby bonnet and sweater sets she knitted just over 1,000 children’s sweaters for Knit for Kids and also scarves for the homeless.

Alice’s family includes three daughters, Martha Methot and her husband, Clement, of Manchester, NH,

Anne Love and her husband, John, of Palm Coast, FL, and Carolyn Legg and her husband, David, of Johnstown, CO. Her descendants include 9 grandchildren and 17 great-grandchildren.

A Memorial Service will take place at the discretion of the family.
