Alice N. Plastiras completed her wonderful life’s journey on January 21, 2023. She and her sister, Lucia, were born in NYC on June 16, 1934, the children of William and Elizabeth Noyes of Manchester, NH. Alice spent most of her lifetime as a resident of New Hampshire, going to local schools before venturing to Vasselboro, Maine to attend the Oak Grove School.
She married Robert S. Szarek of Bedford, had four children and was a homemaker. Later, Alice was employed at Ammon Instruments, Jewel Electronics and Sanders Associates. She served as a volunteer at the Elliot Hospital and was involved with the Girl Scouts of America for many years. Alice was a member of Anagennesis Ladies Society at St. George Greek Orthodox Church and also enjoyed singing in the church choir. She stayed close to her friends from school and loved to have lunch and laughs with alumni of Oaky Grovey, as she called it. Alice was an adventurer. She loved to jump in the car and take her children to every state park in NH as well as various tourist traps. She loved to ski, skate and horseback ride in her earlier years and shared this expertise with her children. She was a rare bird who experienced tandem hang glider flight, motorcycling and hot air balloon rides. Alice was fond of all animals, whether they walked, swam or flew. She was an avid bird and squirrel watcher and she kept all well fed at her feeders. Alice loved being with her family, especially to go mini golfing and to meet on Sunday mornings to drink coffee and feast on donuts of all sorts, brought by her grandsons. She would say that she was only going to have a few bites, but would continue until they were gone! She enjoyed rides to Massabesic Lake and shopping with her caregivers from Visiting Angels.
She was predeceased by her parents and twin sister Lucia (Noyes) Calvin, her ex-husband Robert S. Szarek, and her husband of 23 years, George Plastiras.
She leaves her loving children DebraAnne Szarek (Phil Plante), Johanna Papantones (Jim Arbogast), Jonathan Szarek (Toni Szarek), Christopher W. Szarek (Linda Marquis), grandchildren Danny and Sienna Szarek, Alex and Christian Papantones and their dad Mark Papantones, a niece and nephew, their families and lots of people she has met and loved along the way. The family would like to thank Visiting Angels of Auburn, Courville of Manchester, Villa Crest of Manchester, and NH VNA and Hospice for their loving care.
In lieu of flowers, memorial donations in Alice’s name may be made to NH Audubon, 84 Silk Farm Rd., Concord, NH 03301.
SERVICES: A celebration of her life will be held on February 18, 2023, from 3PM to 5 PM at The Cremation Society of New Hampshire, 243 Hanover St., Manchester, NH.
