Alphonse L. Birtelle, 72, died on August 17, 2000 at St. Francis Home in Laconia after a lengthy illness. Mr. Birtelle was born on January 13, 1928 in Florange Moselle, France the son of the late Adolphe and Dusolina (Melotti) Birtelle. He was a member of the French Army and attended the School of Art and Trade in Hayange, France. He moved to the United States in 1952 coming from Nancy, France. He was a master craftsman and specialized in the restoration of colonial homes which he did throughout NH and Mass for 55 years. He was a professional Flamenco and Classical guitarist. Family members include; one son, Gary Birtelle of Tilton, NH; two daughters, Debra J. Birtelle of Northfield and Cecile Fligg of Sanbornton; four grandchildren; one brother, Fifi Birtelle of Thionvielle, France; two sisters, Carmen Ritter of Savoie, France and Marie Birtelle of Thionvielle, France. He was predeceased by three brothers, Pierre, Palmer and Robert Birtelle. A private memorial service will be held at a later date.
