Alta (Gillmore) Kimball

Our Dear Mother's Obituary

Alta Kimball passed away peacefully at her home in Hampton at the tender age of 99, on January 18. She was born April 23, 1918, the daughter of Roy W. Gillmore and Anna Hopkins Gillmore. She worshiped at Faith Community Church, where she has made many friends.
Alta was born in Henniker, NH. She lived in Charlestown, NH until she was 12 years old, when her father took the position of Superintendent of Schools for School District #21, and they moved to Hampton.
Her favorite childhood memory was family gatherings where there was so much food, they had to remove the barn doors and use them for tables. She attended Keene State College and taught in a multi-aged classroom in Tuftonboro. She loved teaching, saying it "was in her blood".
Alta met her husband, Bob Kimball, while both were performing in a play in Wolfeboro. They married while he was in the Army, and moved to Germany, where she learned to speak fluent German.
Alta was a devoted mother of six children. She loved being with her family, playing the piano, reading murder mysteries and watching them on TV, and sitting on her porch for hours. She also enjoyed eating ice cream, playing cards and riding along the beach.
Alta is preceded in death by her parents, her husband, Robert W. Kimball, son Duane Kimball, granddaughter Emily Kimball, and great granddaughter, Amanda Ransom. She is survived by son Gary (Diane) Kimball, daughter Nan-Lynn (Bruce) Ransom, daughter Sherry (Pete) Hird, son Kevin (Maureen) Kimball, and daughter Dale (Peter) Moulton. She is the grandmother of 20 grandchildren and has 16 great grandchildren.
When asked what her dreams for the future would be, she replied, "I would like to see my children and grandchildren grow up and see what successes they've made of their lives." At the end of her life, she had seen these dreams come true.
A celebration of her life will be held at the First Congregational Church in Hampton on Saturday, April 21, at 10:00 am. She would have celebrated her 100th birthday on April 23.
