Alvah Grinnell Howland, Jr., 81, of 464 Suncook Valley Highway, Epsom, died August 5, 2005 at the Veterans Administration Medical Center. He was born in New Bedford, MA on November 17, 1923, the son of Alvah and J. Mildred (Owen) Howland and had been a Massachusetts resident for most of his life before moving to New Hampshire 22 years ago. He was a World War II Veteran where he served in the Army Air Corps as a fighter pilot and flying instructor. He later owned and operated Howlands Greenhouse in Bridgewater, MA for many years. Family members include his wife, Marjorie (Sisson) Howland; two daughters, Cynthia Aston of WV and Marjorie Howland of RI; three sons, Ronald Howland of FL, Charles Howland and Richard Howland, both of MA; 10 grandchildren an 12 great grandchildren; one sister, one brother and several nephews, nieces and cousins. A graveside committal service with military honors will take place on Thursday at 11:00 in the New Hampshire State Veterans Cemetery, Boscawen.
