Ann (Jewett) Saad, 92, of Hudson, NH died peacefully on Saturday, April 8, 2023, surrounded by her loving family.
She was born in Laconia, NH on June 23, 1930, the daughter of the late Maurice and Hattie (Morrison) Jewett. Ann grew up and attended public schools in Laconia, where she was Valedictorian of her class. She then enrolled at the University of New Hampshire, class of 1952, majoring in Math. This is where she met her husband Ferris Saad, who survives her. They have been married almost 75 years.
Following their marriage, they moved to Portsmouth, NH where they raised four children who survive her; sons, Alan Saad of Inverness, FL and Dana Saad of Safety Harbor, FL; daughters, Sharon Thorne and her husband, David of Plymouth, NH and Laurie Saad of Hudson, NH; three grandchildren, Danielle Saad of Tampa, FL, Evan Thorne of Windham, ME and Isabel Thorne of Houston, TX; great grandchildren, Gavin Saad of Ozona, FL, and Jayden Saad and Rylan Saad of Adrian, MI. In addition to her parents, Ann was predeceased by her brother, John Jewett, late of Socorro, NM and her grandsons, Aaron and Daniel Saad.
As a young woman raising her children, she became involved in early childhood education. This included building and owning The Lilliput School, which provided pre-school childhood education. During the summer months, Ann began a reading laboratory, which provided reading assistance to those in need.
For many years she was a substitute teacher at Portsmouth School District. Ann also did special projects for PHS such as completing an ill student’s senior year at PHS covering all required subjects, including Latin.
In 1976, after her children were grown, Ann went to work at the Portsmouth office of the Internal Revenue Service from which she retired in 1992. After retirement, she volunteered in the free Tax Assistance program for more than twenty years. She was also a Board member of Portsmouth Visiting Nurses and Compass Care Adult Day Care. Ann was an active member of Beta Sigma Phi for over sixty years.
Ann became a resident of Greenland, NH in 1982 when she and her husband moved into the new residence they built and lived there continuously until moving in with their daughter, Laurie, at her home in Sparkling River, Hudson, NH.
SERVICES: A Memorial Gathering will be held on Friday, April 28, 2023, from 12:00PM-1:00PM at the Cremation Society of New Hampshire, 243 Hanover Street, Manchester, NH 03104. A Funeral Home Service will follow at 1:00PM. Family and friends are invited to attend.
