Anne ( Anna ) M. O’Neill passed away peacefully on June 2, 2026 in Bedford, N.H. She was born in Danvers, MA., as Anna Marie Halupowski to Stanley & Mary (Glowa) Halupowski on Feb. 1, 1934. Although born Anna, she became known as Anne, and more affectionately, “Honey”. She grew up at 15 Perry St., in Danvers with siblings Stanley (Hale), Susan (Evans), Bernard and Patsy ( Brennan). The family lived a short time in E. Hartford, CT. while Anne’s father made his contribution to the war by manufacturing supplies at Pratt and Whitney as he was unable to enroll for active duty and wanted to support his fellow Americans in times of war. She graduated from Holten ( Danvers) High School in June of 1952 where she met her high school sweetheart, “football star”, husband, Robert E. O’Neill, Jr. (Red), who she taught the joys of Music and dancing to, and shared the reverence of the importance of family. They married on Aug. 14, 1955 and remained “until death do us part”, 69 years later, when Robert passed in October of 2024.
Anne enrolled in Salem State College and Robert joined the Airforce which took them to many places, always near to the ocean, except while stationed in Arizona in 1956 when their first of 4 children, Debra was born. Anne received Commendations for her work at Andrews Airforce base including from the Commander in Chief who described her as gracious, tactful, intelligent and having the finesse to do jobs well done with expertise. They returned to their East Coast roots in Danvers where daughter Beth and son Robert E. O’Neill III were born. Settling then again by the ocean in one of her favorite of places by the sea, Mystic, CT., where daughter Wendy was born. Anna found peace, solace and joy watching her children on the ocean, a lifelong love for which she instilled in them. Anna devoted herself to her children, all while supporting Robert’s endeavors as he worked his way through Northeastern University, the Airforce, and then the Executive corporate ladder. She was an integral part of Robert’s many successes, never ceasing to encourage and support him while still raising their children and seeking to better herself and the world around her. She became a Certified accountant and Real Estate broker during those busy years.
Music was a cornerstone of Anne’s life. She told memorable accounts of dancing at the Frolics in Salisbury to Sammy Davis Jr., Tony Bennett and Louis Armstrong and of shows like Ray Charles at the Casino. Her love of live music never waivered, continuing to attend live events with her children even late in life with popular live events, The Newport Jazz & Folk Festival, Lowell Summer Art series and many many more popular events. Her tastes were diverse, cultured and eclectic, listening to even her grandchildren’s thoroughly modern music.
Later, life led “Honey & Red” to live and travel in Europe where she loved Paris, Milan and all the small seaside villages they lived in and visited along the way. Anne, adapting to all that is foreign, embraced the cultures and the lifestyles of others, making friends of strangers along the way. Anne always had a deep love for New York City where she had frequented Broadway as often as possible to enjoy the best of the best on stage. Anna was a talented artist herself, her own works overshadowed by the many collections of original artwork she and “Bob” collected during their travels.
Anne was many things to many, but always a friend to all. She wished for peace always, in her life and the world around her. “Spread kindness like wildflowers” hung on her door. She remained a woman of style and grace throughout her life. Her unwavering love and support for her family leaves a void never again to be filled, but for the memories of the many acts of kindness and support she displayed until the very end.
Anna cherished the new friendships she formed at Carlyle with residents and staff alike.
She was predeceased by brother Stanley Hale, Grandchildren Taylor O’Neill, Kathleen O’Neill and Micah Jean.
She is survived by her 4 children, Debra Jean of Deerfield, N.H., Beth O’Neill Burbank of Manchester, N.H., Robert O’Neill III of Epsom, N.H., & Wendy Bamford Ahlquist of Manchester,N.H., and grandchildren Kelly Russell, Bora Jean, Ben Jean, Sarah Jean, Ian O’Neill Burbank, Robert O’Neill 4th, Liam Quinn Burbank, Jocelyn Tetu, Hannah Bamford, Jake Bamford, Alecea Ahlquist & Michael Ahlquist, Great Grandchildren Jonathan “Jonny” Francis and Julia Russell as well as her siblings Susan, Bernard and Patsy.
