Anne Rowland Carew, 91, of Hopkinton, passed away peacefully on January 25, 2026. She was born on December 31, 1934, in Tacoma, Washington, to the late Dewitt and Anna (Savage) Rowland.

A proud West Coast native, she graduated from Stadium High School in Tacoma, Washington, in 1952, and earned her degree from Seattle University in 1956.

On September 16, 1961, she married Richard P. Carew. In 1970, they made their home in Hopkinton, New Hampshire, where she became a cherished and familiar presence for more than five decades.

She dedicated over 25 years of professional service to Concord Hospital, retiring in 1999. She also was committed to serve in other ways including as an EMT for Hopkinton Fire Department. Retirement, however, only expanded her commitment to others. She served her community tirelessly, a Hospice House volunteer, a Meals on Wheels driver, and a Eucharistic Minister at St. Theresa’s Parish. She also generously gave her time to the Capital Center for the Arts, supporting creativity and culture in the region she loved.

Beyond her local contributions, she possessed an insatiable curiosity about the world. Alongside her sister, family, and dear friends, she explored the landscapes of Africa, Asia, and Europe.

Whether she was navigating a foreign city or the quiet roads of New Hampshire, she did so with a sense of wonder and sharp wit.

She was predeceased by her beloved sister, Mary “Queen” Rowland, and her parents, Dewitt Clark Rowland and Anne Savage Rowland.

She is survived by her children Anne C. Carew (Barry Goldberg), Joseph D. Carew (Karen), and Richard R. Carew (Cathy);grandmother to Bryant D. Carew (Jessica), Nolan T. Carew (Kara), Daniel M. Carew, and Jillian A. Carew; great-grandmother to Alexander D. Carew and Sloane T. Carew; as well as her 39 nieces, nephews, and godchildren, along with their families, and by a wide circle of lifelong cousins and friends who were family in every way that mattered.

A funeral Mass will be held on Saturday, January 31, at 11:00 a.m. at St. Theresa Catholic Church, 158 Old West Hopkinton Road, Henniker, NH 03242. A reception will follow at Daniel’s Restaurant in Henniker, where family and friends are invited to gather, share stories, and celebrate a life beautifully lived.

In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to one of her cherished organizations:

• Capital Center for the Arts

• Hopkinton Public Library Foundation
