Anne (Duffy) Kenney of Hancock, New Hampshire, passed away on July 17, 2026, following a short illness. She was 90 years old.

Born on September 5, 1935, in Fall River, Massachusetts, Anne was the daughter of Arthur and Edna Duffy. She was predeceased by her parents; her husband, Peter J. Kenney; her brothers Arthur "Bud" Duffy, Thomas Duffy, David Duffy, and Martin Duffy; and her sister, Janice Kirkman.

Anne is survived by her children, Beth Fox (Bruce), David Kenney (Mary Kay), and Jeanne Kenney; her grandchildren, Emily and Alan Fox, Philip and Samuel Kenney, and Liana Kenney; Debbi Gee, whose enduring friendship was a constant throughout the years; and many nieces and nephews.

Independent and determined, Anne graduated from B.M.C. Durfee High School in Fall River, honored in the yearbook's "Hall of Fame" as one of the Ten Highest Ranking Seniors for the Class of 1953. She earned scholarships and put herself through the University of Massachusetts at Amherst, where she met her future husband, Peter and graduated alongside him in 1957. From a young age, she understood that education could open doors that might otherwise remain closed.

After college through her retirement in 2009, Anne taught in Ohio, Rhode Island, Massachusetts, and New Hampshire, treasuring decades with “her kids.” Anne capped off her career teaching 5th grade at Great Brook School in Antrim, where learning was never confined to a textbook. She brought local history to life through creative projects, transformed the outdoors into an active learning environment, and nurtured a lifelong sense of curiosity, critical thinking, and confidence in her students.

Her creative spirit found purpose and expression in countless ways. An accomplished quilter, Anne created quilts that are treasured by family and friends. Many other quilts found their way to unknown children in need through the Southwest New Hampshire chapter of Project Linus; these quilts were often accompanied by a carefully selected book or a handmade stuffed animal. A lifelong reader with a particular love of history, she volunteered with the Hancock Historical Society, helping preserve community treasures and stories. While living in Rhode Island, she raised puppies for Guiding Eyes for the Blind, knowing that time invested in each dog would help another stranger gain greater independence.

At home, Anne took pride in baking, crafting, and her garden. Her blueberry pies, made and frozen each year with berries picked from her own garden, were featured on every family holiday table. Over the years, countless friends, colleagues, students, and family were presented with handmade holiday ornaments. Visitors always found cookies in her kitchen and, in the summer, freshly-arranged flowers from her yard would be displayed in a pretty jar.

A memorial reception celebrating Anne's life will welcome family, friends, former students, and other members of the community whose lives she touched. The reception will be on Saturday, August 29, from 1:00pm to 3:00pm at the Vestry (next to the Meeting House) at 47 Main Street in Hancock, NH.
