Anthony Charles Greene of Penacook, NH died on July 6th after a brief period of illness. He died peacefully at home in the loving presence of his family.

Tony was born in Hancock, NH on February 3, 1942, into the family of Fred and Elizabeth Greene. He and his 4 brothers: William, James, Robert, and Fred (RIP) often enjoyed sharing stories of their escapades growing up in the Hillsborough area. He is also predeceased by his younger sister, Joanne. After graduating from high school, Tony went on to attend NHTI where he studied electronics. Tony then began his 25 year career working at Northern Telecom, moving his way from the assembly line into management. It was during the early years of his career that he met the love his life, Jacquelyn “Jacquie” Philbin Greene and the two were married on June 7, 1964. Through their 60 years of marriage, Tony and Jacquie raised their family and became loved and respected long-time members of their community.

Tony was a career man who worked long hours as he made his way through the ranks at Northern Telecom, and then again at Secure Care Products where he worked for many years before retiring as Director of Operations at age 72. Tony was a lifelong learner who not only sought knowledge as a hobby, but returned to college in his fifties and graduated with his Bachelor’s Degree in Business Management in 1986. He enjoyed tinkering with his electronics and his “toys” at home and most who know him will not forget the vision of him maneuvering around his beautiful yard with his treasured John Deere Tractor. He was a craftsman whose woodworking projects added beautiful accents to his home and created legacy gifts for his family. He loved a challenging game of chess and also, for many years, could be seen in his leather jacket joy riding on his motorcycle. Tony enjoyed long walks in the woods by the river making friends with favorite rocks and trees along his path and his trusted companion, Brandy, trotting beside him. He enjoyed poker with his brothers, close friends and son and, in later years, he began each day working on solving the daily newspaper puzzles with Jacquie.

Though Tony enjoyed his alone time and focusing his attention on his career, he was at heart a husband, father, and grandfather first. His grandkids fondly remember tractor rides, sleepovers, trips for ice cream and chess games with their Papa. When he spoke, his words carried a unique wisdom and perspective that helped others see things more clearly. His steady support instilled a lasting sense of strength, confidence, and resilience that his family will forever cherish.

Tony was predeceased by his beloved Jacquie in 2024. He is survived by his daughter Cheryl Twombly and her husband Brian of Londonderry, NH and his son, Marc and his wife Lisa of Tilton, NH, along with his deeply loved grandchildren: Erin Twombly, Drew Twombly, and Christopher Twombly; and Janel Greene, Cody Greene and his adored great-granddaughter, Aubree Greene.

A Celebration of Life will be held on July 26th from 11 to 3. Memorial service will start at 11:30 followed by light refreshments and gathering. The event will take place at Alan’s of Boscawen Restaurant, 133 North Main St., Boscawen, NH, 03303
