Anthony J. (Tony) Romano, Jr., 81, of Manchester, NH passed away on July 1, 2019 after a brave battle with multiple heath issues.
Tony was born in Norwood, MA on November 8, 1937 to the late Rose (Bellino) and Anthony J. Romano, Sr. He was a resident of Canton, MA, Norwood, MA, New Hampton, NH and Manchester, NH.
Tony will lovingly be remembered by his wife of 58 years, Marjorie (Corbett) Romano. Together they raised three children; Anthony J. (Julie) Romano III., Teresa M.R. (Michael) Hamlin and Laurianne (Daniel) Beaule. They have six grandchildren Brenna, Joe, Quinn, Emma, Dylan, Chelsea, and one great granddaughter, Tegan. Tony loved and enjoyed his family and took great delight in being involved in his children's and grandchildren's lives.
Tony graduated from Cathedral High School in Boston, MA and he went on to enlist in the United States Marine Corps in 1956. He served as an aviation mechanic and crew chief on a Corsair in Quantico, VA until he completed his honorable discharge in 1959.
As a young man, Tony became involved in community service as President of the Norwood, MA Babe Ruth League. When the family moved to NH, he became a member of the Marine Corps League, Lakes Region Detachment #506 and rose through the ranks to Commandant in 2002. He was a member of the Military Order of Devil Dogs.
In 2005, Tony was the chairman of a group of Marines that designed and raised funds for a monument to recognize all New Hampshire Marines. The Marine Corps Memorial Monument was placed on the Memorial Walkway at the New Hampshire State Cemetery in Boscawen, NH on November 10, 2005. The monument commemorated the commitment of the United States Marines and the 230th birthday of the Corps.
In 1989, he became a member of the Meredith Kiwanis Club and held many offices within the Club becoming President in 1993 and Lieutenant Governor of the Kiwanis New England Division from 1994 â 1996. He was a parishioner of St. Charles Church in Meredith, NH and served on the Parish Council for 18 years and on the Building Committee for 15 years. In 1990, Tony created and established the Monsignor George Chicoine Scholarship for high school students and it is still in existence today.
After moving to Manchester, NH in 2012, Tony transferred to the Granite State Detachment #542 Marine Corps League and continued to be active as a member and fundraiser.
In 2017, he was a recipient of a modification to his home by the Building Dreams for Marines organization. The modification allowed him mobility and easy access to the outdoors in his electric wheelchair. He also became a volunteer of the organization at their annual Golf Tournament working the "Money Hole". Tony enjoyed being involved with people and all of these organizations held a special place in his heart.
Tony loved to travel and he was an avid New England/Boston sports fan.
Tony was pre-deceased by his sister, Rosemarie Daigle, and brothers-in-law Anthony J. Daigle and Thaddeus J. Howell. He is survived by his sister, Josephine Howell, and many cousins, nieces and nephews.
There will be no calling hours. Friends and family members are invited to attend the memorial service on Friday, July 12, 2019 at 11:30 am sharp in the Chapel at the NH State Veterans Cemetery, 110 Daniel Webster Highway, Boscawen, NH. The twenty minute service will be immediately followed by a "Celebration of Life" reception at the Grappone Convention Center at the Marriott Courtyard Hotel, 70 Constitution Avenue, Concord, NH.

Tony was known for his infectious smile, laugh and big heart. He will forever be remembered through loving memories as a soul that brought joy and fulfillment to many, and whose legacy will live on forever.
