Arthur B. Learmonth, 93, of Portsmouth, NH died peacefully at Havenwood Health Center in Hampton following a brief illness. Mr. Learmonth was born on February 19, 1910 in Orkney Isles, Scotland the son of the late Alexander and Mary (Clouston) Learmonth. He grew up in Lawrence, MA and attended UNH where he received his Master s Degree in Education. He served as a Lieutenant Commander in the US Navy. He spent 35 years at the US Dept. of Labor in the Wage and Hour Division in Manchester, NH. He retired in 1971 to West Hyannisport, MA and then relocated to Portsmouth, NH in 1994 to be close to his family. Family members include; one son, Arthur Learmonth, Jr. of Newton, Iowa; two daughters, Marjory Lightizer of Portsmouth, NH and Linda Kramas of Northwood, NH; five grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews. Mr. Learmonth was predeceased by his wife, Phyllis (Robinson) Learmonth who died just one year prior. The family requests in lieu of flowers that donations be made to the American Cancer Society.
