Barbara Ellen Hanchett

Barbara Ellen Hanchett (Bagley) passed away surrounded by her two daughters on July 11, 2023.

She was born on February 12, 1941 in Hanover, NH, daughter of the late Henry and Florinda (Reed) Bagley. Barb grew up on a farm in Quechee, VT. She went to school in Quechee and graduated from Hartford High School.

Barb was born with a love for the outdoors and was always up for an adventure. After graduating high school, she left for the West Coast with seven friends in a VW van. She lived for a time in both California and Utah. Upon returning to the East Coast, Barb settled in Concord, where she worked as a nursing assistant at Concord Hospital. It was there that she met Arlene Hanchett, who introduced her to her future husband, David Hanchett.

Barb was never known to rest. Soon after beginning her family, she worked as a field hockey coach and swim instructor. Later, she worked as the Director of Senior Programs at the Concord YMCA. After many years working for others, Barb decided to open her own business, Always an Adventure. Always an Adventure, was more than just a business, it was her passion.

Barb’s love for her family and friends cannot be overstated. She spent her days traveling the world, hiking, kayaking, and being a light to many seniors who shared her passion of the outdoors and being active. She loved a good happy hour with a glass of wine, playing cards and laughing with her friends.

Barb was an amazing lady who loved life and will be greatly missed by her family and many people who knew and loved her, especially her grandchildren who held a very special place in her heart.

She was preceded by her husband, David R. Hanchett, her three sisters, and her brother.

She is survived by her daughters, Mary Anne Hanchett and Pamela Mathews; son-in-laws, Steve LaClair and Don Mathews; Grandchildren, Alexandra Smallwood and Garrett Mathews; as well as her beloved Vermont nieces and nephew.

SERVICES: A Memorial Gathering will be held at the Cremation Society of NH, 172 King Street in Boscawen on Friday, July 21, 2023 from 10am to 11am, immediately followed by a Memorial Service at 11am. Family and friends are respectfully invited to attend.
