Barbara Birge Mabbs

ELLSWORTH –Barbara Birge Mabbs, 86 of 22 Ellsworth Pond Road in Ellsworth, NH died peacefully on December 18, 2006 at her home, surrounded by family. Mrs. Mabbs was born on June 15, 1920, in North Platte Nebraska, the daughter of the late Richmond D. Sr. and Orilla Gilman Birge. A Phi Beta Kappa graduate of Northwestern University (1941) and Stephens College (1939), she ably balanced career, volunteer activities, and motherhood; holding a variety of positions with Northwestern University until retirement from Department of Development in 1984. She and Ralph R. Mabbs, her now deceased husband of 60 years moved to New Hampshire in 2000 to be with family. Mrs. Mabbs was a parishioner of the Church of the Holy Spirit in Plymouth, and a member of the Mary Butler chapter of the DAR. Surviving family members include; two daughters, Mrs. Daniel (Barbara) Robinson of Ellsworth, and Linda Mabbs of Potomac, Md.; one grandson Matthew Richmond Clark of Brooklyn, NY; and several nieces and nephews. Services will take place this spring at St. Michaels Episcopal Church in Barrington, IL.
