Barbara J. Page

Barbara J. Page, 83, of Webster, NH, passed away peacefully, surrounded by the love of her family, Saturday, November 30th.

Barbara was born in Boston on May 3, 1930, the daughter of John W. and Marie (Durell) Purssell. She was raised in Milton, MA and, for many of those years, lived on the grounds of Cunningham Park in East Milton. She devoted her life to raising four strong, compassionate daughters on her own after her husband, Dick, died at a young age in 1976. She was her daughters' biggest sports fan, sitting on the sidelines cheering away while always having a knitting project to keep her busy. She also loved cheering on her Red Sox, Celtics and New England Patriots through good years and not-so-good years. Barbara was also an active woman in both her youth and later in life and she possessed a tremendous generosity of spirit. She was an advisor for both the Milton and Scituate Assemblies of the International Order of Rainbow for Girls, as well as an active member of both Guy A Ham and Plymouth Eastern Star Chapters. Barbara was a Girl Scout Leader in Milton and for many years took the family camping all summer long. She remarried in 1995 to Herbert Page and thus began her traveling adventures across the US and over the oceans on cruise lines. Barbara was a Breast Cancer Survivor and a tireless volunteer at Jordan Hospital in Plymouth, MA, knitting baby blanket, sweater and hat sets for less fortunate infants born at the hospital. After Herb's death, she moved to NH in July of 2013 where she dedicated her knitting projects to the Concord Hospital.
Barbara is survived by her daughters, Lucinda (Fairchild) Newton, Jennifer (Fairchild) Butts, Heather Fairchild, and Sarah (Fairchild) Foss and their spouses and partners; her sister Lynda (Purssell, Cranmer) Courtemanche; grandchildren, Amanda (Newton) Isham, Shanna (Newton) Fitts, Abigail (Butts) Smith, Shaylyn Butts, Tara Butts, Richard Foss and Jeremy Foss and their spouses and partners; and 13 great grandchildren. She is also survived by her step-daughter MaryJo Sweeney and her step-son David Page. She was predeceased by her first husband, Richard "Dick" Fairchild of Milton, MA and her second husband, Herbert Page of Carver, MA. She was also predeceased by her brother, John "Jack" Purssell.
A Gathering of Friends and Family will be held Saturday, December 7th, 10:00am-noon at the Cremation Society of New Hampshire, 172 King Street in Boscawen, NH. Please join us in celebrating this amazing woman's life and legacy. In lieu of flowers, Barbara would appreciate donations to either Jordan Hospital online at www.jordanhospital.org/donate or Concord Hospital's Payson Center online at http://giveto.concordhospital.org. The family would also like to suggest that another tribute one could make in Barbara's memory is to give blood, as the generosity of others who gave blood kept our mother alive for the past seven years.
