SCARPONI, Barbara Trombly (Lamson), born May 12, 1941, Portsmouth, NH, died peacefully in her sleep on August 1st, 2018 after a lengthy illness. She was under the daily care of her son, Matthew, with support from family, under the supervision of Whittier Rehabilitation, Bradford, MA. Barbara can be remembered as a loving mother, a kind soul, a devout Christian, and an accomplished artist with a magnificent way of communicating her love to others through her gift of art.

Barbara graduated from Portsmouth High School in 1959 and the University of Wisconsin (Madison) in 1965 with a BA in Fine Arts where she studied under Arthur Vierthaler. She was a co-founder in Portsmouth of the Baketel Gallery in 1967, a co-op studio and shop showcasing artist and crafts people's work. Barbara was the subject of an award-winning film series produced by New Hampshire Public Television Network entitled, "The World and Work of the American Craftsman." She was well known and highly respected as a juried member of the League of N.H. Craftsmen, which holds her work in their permanent collection.

Known not only for her remarkable ability to create miniature sculptures and unique jewelry, Barbara was a very thoughtful artist working to understand, interpret and connect our existence to nature and the universe through her work. Those around her each enjoys his or her own collection of notes, art, and sketches lovingly sent and delivered over the years.

Preceded in death by her parents, Robert H. and Lillian T. Lamson, and her brother Robert S. Lamson, of Newington, NH, Barbara is survived by the father of her children, Robert D. Scarponi, of Canterbury, NH, her brother, John C. Lamson and sister-in-law, Lelia Lamson, and sister-in-law (spouse, Robert S.), Margaret Lamson, of Newington; her sons, Matthew C. Scarponi and John A. Scarponi, and their spouses, Jennifer L. Scarponi and Kiersten L. Scarponi, of Canterbury, NH; her nieces and nephew, Ann F. Lamson, Christine Lamson, and Robert H. Lamson , of Newington; three grandchildren, Joshua, Josephine, and Madison Scarponi, and grand nieces, Laurissa, Gabriella, Margaret and Lillian.

The Cremation Society of NH is handling funeral Arrangements, and a private ceremony and internment into the Newington, NH cemetery will occur at a later date. If desired, friends may make a memorial donation to The Swedenborg Foundation, 320 N Church St., Westchester, PA 19330. Condolences may be sent to the family through CSNH.com.
