Barbara (Weaver) Shippee

Barbara Muriel Shippee, 95, passed on to glory November 21, 2015 at
3:20pm. Barbara, daughter of Thomas and Annie Weaver, was born Feb 29, 1920 in Danielson, CT. She was predeceased by her parents, her husband, Leonard, and her 5 siblings, Francis Weaver, Marjorie Congdon, Mary Low, Donald Weaver and Norma Roy. She is survived by and will be missed by her 7 children: Roy Shippee and his wife, Dottie of Foster, Rl; Warren Shippee and his wife, Becky of Groveland, FL; Nancy Hammond and her husband, Kenny of Bradenton, FL; Elizabeth (Betty) Tanner and her husband, David of Warwick, Rl; Norman (Doc) Shippee and his wife, Susan of Foster, Rl; Barbara Berwick and her husband Bruce of Antrim, NH and Wayne (Chip) Shippee and his special friend Denise (Dee) Marsella of Chepachet,
Rl, as well as her 20 grandchildren, 16 great-grandchildren, and many nieces and nephews as well as her
brother-in law, Paul Roy.
Barbara was born and raised in Danielson, CT. She married Leonard Calvin Shippee on August 27, 1943. After Leonard came home from the war they settled in Scituate, Rl but moved back to Leonard's family home in Foster after his father's passing. They had a small farm with cows, chickens, pigs, lambs and one goose, Goosey. Barbara would rise at 4:30 every day to prepare the milk pails and begin making lunches. After the milking was done she pasteurized and bottled the milk. Barbara made all the clothes for herself and all her children, always giving her children the best and taking what was left for herself. She canned probably hundreds of thousands of jars of green beans, pickles and tomatoes, and froze countless bags of corn, broccoli, Brussel sprouts and cauliflower. Every year she wrapped, labeled and froze meat from an entire cow and 2 pigs. She endured having her house filled with numerous pets, including a skunk, a raccoon, 5 squirrels, and an endless array of dogs and cats, all while not really being an "animal" person. She also was the official "navigator'' while Leonard drove the car in a day before GPS devices. Barbara and Leonard were faithful members of the church, never missing a Sunday, bringing all their children with them.
Leonard died in September of 1979, and a few years after his passing Barbara moved to Groveland, FL.
There she became a volunteer at South Lake Hospital and continued as a volunteer for 19 years until she was
90 years old. As a volunteer she delivered mail, brought specimens to the lab, took people to have their x rays or Cat scans, pushed discharged people out in a wheelchair, assisted people in finding locations, ran a coffee shop and made many, many friends. At home she sewed bears and other animals to give to the children who were in the hospital. She also enjoyed quilting, basket weaving and making clowns and dolls for her grandchildren.
The last years of Barbara's life have been spent living with her children due to her memory issues.
In the evening she often felt that she needed to go home, as her parents were waiting for her. Now she has joined her parents, siblings and husband in her eternal .home.
