Barbara Louise (Fish) Smith, 78 of Antrim passed away peacefully on March 16, 2015 surrounded by her children at the Community Hospice House in Merrimack, NH. She was born in Peterborough on November 18, 1936, the daughter of the late John and Paul-ine (Ingraham) Fish. She graduated from Conant High School in Jaffrey and briefly pur-sued a career in nursing, while working as a waitress at the Shattuck Inn in Jaffrey. She was married to her late husband Jim on December 26, 1956 and spent their first three years together in Barbara's family home in Jaffrey. They moved to Antrim in 1960, where they raised their three children, and where she resided until suffering a debilitating stroke in June of 2014.
Barbara worked as the bookkeeper for several years for her husband's machine tool busi-ness and as co-owner of B&J's Pizza and Subs in Antrim while raising her children. She also was an order entry specialist at The Brookstone Company in Peterborough and spent many school years at Antrim Elementary School as "the cafeteria lady." Prior to falling ill, she was an avid puzzle maker, card player and bird watcher, enjoyed Thursday night Bin-go at the VFW in Hillsborough, and weekly scrabble games with her friends. She loved to go camping with family and to cook hearty meals. She will always be remembered for her toll house cookies and for carrying on her mother's recipe for making the "best ever" sour and bread and butter pickles. She adored her grandchildren and great grandchildren and loved to knit for them on special occasions.
In addition to her late husband Jim, with whom she enjoyed 57 wonderful years, family members include three children, Douglas and Sheila Smith of Manchester, Kimberley and George Maxfield of Manchester and Tracy and Christopher Child of Highlands Ranch Colorado; grandchildren Kara, Kyle, Brighid, Kristopher, Liam, Alison and Abby; great grandchildren Shaylah, Alexis, Sierrah and Amelia; her twin sister Beverly.
