Barbara Sandberg Woodbury, daughter of the late Robert Nathaniel Sandberg and Sara Frances (Dodd) Sandberg, died peacefully at her home on May 10, 2023, in Milford, New Hampshire. She was born on September 29, 1925, in Beverly, Massachusetts, and lived most of her life in Beverly.
Barbara was a graduate of Beverly High School and Katharine Gibbs School in Boston. She worked for many years as an Office Manager at the Knight Insurance Agency in Boston. She belonged to the Busy Bee Society, a charitable group that is one of the oldest sewing circles in the United States, where she served as an officer. For many years, she served on the Board (including as President) of The Girdler House, a retirement home for women in Beverly. Barbara enjoyed spending time with friends at her summer home on Baker’s Island, Salem, Massachusetts. An avid gardener, she also enjoyed floral design competition at the Boston Flower Show through her garden club and won many awards.
She is predeceased by her husband of 61 years, Stephen E. Woodbury, Jr. She is survived by two sons, Stephen A. Woodbury (Marta Lachowska) of Battle Creek, Michigan, and Mark P. Woodbury (Karen) of Amherst, New Hampshire. Barbara also is the grandmother of Laura Knott (Trevor) of Exeter, New Hampshire, Kathryn Bagley (Craig) of Boston, Massachusetts, Ricardo Woodbury (Heather) of Highlands Ranch, Colorado, and Jacob Woodbury of Battle Creek, Michigan. Barbara also leaves behind five great grandchildren, to whom she was known as “Bunny.”
Services and burial will be private at a later date.
