Bert Rhodes, 77, of Virginia Lane in East Wakefield, NH died on June 25, 2001 at Huggins Hospital in Wolfeboro after a lengthy bout with cancer. Mr. Rhodes was born on November 1, 1923 in Brooklyn, New York the son of the late Edward and Lee Rhodes. He was a U S Army Veteran who served in the Air Corps where he was an Electronics Instructor form 1941 until 1946. Mr. Rhodes worked in management for the New York Telephone Company and A T & T for 40 years. He was heavily involved with the Republican Party and was the Carroll County Norris Cotton Republican of the year in 2000. He was a founder of the Wakefield Republican Committee as well as a former treasurer. He was also a Carroll County Delegate to the 1999 Republican State Convention. For the Town of Wakefield Mr. Rhodes was on the Cable Advisory Board from 1996 until 2000, the Planning Board form 1997 until 2000, Zoning Board from 1998 until 2000 and Treasurer of the Virginia Lane Association. His community involvement began in Riverhead, New York where he was a member of he Shoreham Wading River School Board for 12 years, on the Board of Directors of the Little Flower Orphanage and past President of the Wading River Civic association for 6 years. Besides community involvement and politics Mr. Rhodes enjoyed gardening and boating. His greatest interest, however, was with his children's and grandchildren's education and activities. Family members include; his wife Doris (Christopherson) Rhodes; two sons, Eric (Karin) Rhodes of Hollis, Christopher (Marybeth) Rhodes of Kathleen, GA; and six grandchildren. He was predeceased by his son, Steven Rhodes and sister, Louise Rhodes.
