Bertha Lucille L’Esperance, 92, of Manchester, NH, passed away on January 4, 2026. Born in Manchester on May 24, 1933, she was a daughter of the late Joseph and Emelda (Champagne) Hebert. She shared nearly 50 years of marriage with her late husband, Roland L’Esperance.
Bertha was raised in the Pine Island area of Manchester, and spent most of her adult life in Hooksett, where she and Roland raised their family. She returned to school in her sixties, earning her GED and attending electrolysis school, after which she ran a successful home electrolysis business while caring for her husband throughout his illness. Previously, she had worked for Manchester Knitted Fashions in the mills and for Sprague Electric in Concord.
Bertha loved to keep busy. She and Roland enjoyed traveling in retirement and took great joy seeing the country on road trips in their van, and later Bertha enjoyed spending half the year visiting her daughter, Rayn, in Texas. Bertha loved dogs, owning several beloved chihuahuas throughout her life. In her later years, she enjoyed going to Bingo and doing puzzles.
Bertha is survived by her daughters, Joanne L’Esperance and Rayn Irene Jones; her daughter-in-law, Cindy L’Esperance; her grandchildren, Regina Johnson, Jeff Johnson, Lisa de la Parra, Ryan Van Orden, and Ronnie L’Esperance; her great-grandchildren, Autumn, Addie, Ava, Emma, and Parker; as well as many beloved nieces, nephews, extended family members and friends. In addition to her parents and husband, Bertha was predeceased by her son, Ron L’Esperance, and all of her siblings.
A Celebration of Life will be held on Friday, January 9 at the Meetinghouse at Riverfront (Third Floor, Solarium), 60 Riverfront Drive, Manchester, NH. A Memorial Service will take place at 1:30PM and family and friends are invited to gather until 3:30PM.
