Betty Jane Callahan - Bedford, NH Age 84, of Salem, NH, formerly of Nashua NH, died Tuesday November 15, 2005 at the Laurel Center in Bedford, NH. She was born February 5, 1921 in Willoughby, OH to the late Fred and Edna (Marquardt) Charske. Betty grew up in Willoughby and Phoenix, Arizona, she lived in Miami Fl., and moved to Nashua , where she spent most of her life. Betty worked for Sanders Associates for 17 years as a secretary. Betty’s proudest achievement, however, was as a founder and charter member of Christ the King Lutheran Church in Nashua. Betty directed the children’s choir, served on the council, taught Sunday School, belonged to the Altar Guild, and the Sarah Circle and served on the board of the New England Synod of women of the Evangelical Lutheran Church of America. She was also very active in various theatrical and musical organizations including The Actorsingers, The Theater Guild, The American Stage Festival, The New Hampshire Community Theater Association, The Nashua Choral Society, and the Nashua Symphony Association. She served in many capacities in the above as a performer, director, producer, board member and officer. She was also a member of the South End PTA and served as its president. She was a Brownie Leader and Brownie Leader Trainer. She was a member of the league of Women Voters and the Newcomers Club. Betty was the widow of Robert P. Callahan. Her survivors include her daughter Maureen Abraham and her husband George, of Salem, NH, daughter Kathleen Callahan of San Antonio, TX , and daughter Eileen Higgins and her husband Ken of Nashua; four grandchildren, Corrie Abraham of Berkeley CA, Alyssa Abraham of Portsmouth NH, and Dylan and Zachary Higgins of Nashua NH. There will be no calling hours. A memorial service will be held at Christ the King Lutheran Church in Nashua, on Saturday November 19th at 2:00 o’clock. Family and friends are invited to attend. Memorial contributions can be made to Christ the King Memorial Fund, 3 Lutheran Drive, Nashua NH 03063 or to Portsmouth/Derry/ Salem Home Health and Hospice Services, 1E Commons Drive, Londonderry, NH 03053.
