Portsmouth, NH â Betty C. Goodrich, 83, died February 3, 2015 at Portsmouth Regional Hospital after a long illness.
Mrs. Goodrich was born in 1931 in Dover to her parents, Percy and Margery Maness. She graduated from Dover High School in 1949 and married Clyde Goodrich in 1955. Betty worked at the Portsmouth Naval Shipyard and McIntosh College. She and Clyde spent time in Guam while Clyde was working for the Portsmouth Naval Shipyard. They moved back to the states and lived in Barrington, NH for many years before retiring to Port Richey, Florida. The Goodrich's moved back to New Hampshire and settled in Portsmouth where Betty has lived since Clyde's passing in 2006.
Betty belonged to the Red Hat Ladies in Portsmouth and attended the North Church. She had an affinity for books, crossword puzzles, crocheting and keeping a neat home. She was an outspoken individual whose honesty was refreshing. One would never say she was disingenuous. Her sense of humor and sometimes sardonic tone were often entertaining and could take you aback and put a smile on the face of the most cynical individuals. She had many friends and family who loved and admired her. She will be missed!
She is survived by her brother-in-law, William Goodrich, Boise, Idaho; several nieces and nephews; a close childhood friend, Betty Morin of Dover, her dear friend Nilda Janelle and her godson Jon Janelle and his family in Barrington.
She was preceded in death by her loving husband, Clyde Goodrich; her brother David of Nottingham, NH; and her sister Nancy Sayewich of Camp Verde, AZ and her parents.
Thanks to Betty's neighbors, the Culversons and the Walkers, she was able to spend the remaining days in her home.
Upon Betty's request, there will be no calling hours. A graveside service will be held in the spring at the Veterans Cemetery in Boscawen. The Cremation Society of New Hampshire is in charge of arrangements.
In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the North Church, 355 Spinney Road Portsmouth, N.H. 03801
