Betty E. McKinnon

Betty (Furlong) Mackinnon age 79, died on 4/8/2021, at home, after a lengthy illness. She was born in Boston Massachusetts to Beatrice and George Furlong.
Raising 3 spirited daughters she loved to have fun – she loved to laugh, read, learn and had a zest for life. She was never afraid to try new things, whether it was trying hot dog diets, holding belly dancing classes, teaching ceramic classes, astrology, Sunday school teaching, cake decorating, or 4-H - she had such an eclectic spirit.
She often working 3 jobs at a time in construction, waitressing and other odd jobs to support her children while she obtained a GED and put herself through college to earn both a Bachelor's of Science and a Master's degree. She worked at Raytheon as a Software quality engineer during the late 70's and 80's before striking out on her own to pursue several business endeavors including publishing a motivational magazine and giving motivational speaking seminars. When she was able to, she loved to travel and would spend weeks tooling around to various destinations with her friends or go with her family on girl cruises. After a series of health issues in the early 90's she retired and spent her time helping to raise her grandchildren whom she adored.
She will be remembered for her strong work ethic, her drive , her love of life, and her positive attitude regardless of what life threw at her . She will be remembered for her faith and strength. " God is good" and "we are so lucky" were her favorite saying's which she lived by. She never complained or railed at life for not turning out the way she wanted it, instead she was grateful for what she had – her family and friends. Her family was her life and from earliest memories until now there was never a moment that there was ever a question of her unconditional, un-wavering love and support.
She is predeceased in death by her parents George and Beatrice and her brothers George "Skipper", Gilbert and John Furlong and is survived by her sister Barbara as well as her sister in law Marie along with many nieces and nephews. She was well loved by her family and friends and will be dearly missed by her children, Elizabeth, Lynn, Sharon and son in law Gary. She will be lovingly remembered by her grandchildren, Sheralyn, Andrew and his wife Christiana, Danielle and her fiancé Matt , Richard and his fiancé Roxana , James and Mara, and Jonathan and Amanda, as well as 5, soon to be 6, great grandchildren. She will also be missed by her dear friends Priscilla and Barbara. Per her wishes there will be no funeral or public memorial services held, in lieu of flowers a donation may be made to the charity of your choice or simply saying a prayer for her would be appreciated.
