Beverly Ann Lord nee Nokes, 91, of Rye, NH, passed away Sunday, July 28th a Webster at Rye with her sister Wendy by her side.
Bev was a long-time Rye resident, well known for her extensive contributions to the Rye Garden Club and the Over 55 Club as president and member for many years. She was a committed member of the Rye Congregational Church. There is a plaque in the narthex in recognition of her contributions. She was a friendly face and decades-long volunteer and volunteer coordinator at Fuller Gardens which she loved. Her helping hands and welcoming personality will be missed.
A determined and independent woman, Bevie focused on a rewarding career as a nurse. She went to Beverly Hospital School of Nursing and received her bachelor’s degree later from Nothern Essex Community College. She spent many years at York Harbor Hospital and later at Portsmouth Hospital. There she met the love of her life Edwin. They were enthusiastic hosts for family and friends, always up for the lively round of cards or a board game. Bev was a keen cribbage player and often took the rubber match despite our best efforts. She passed on the New England tradition to her many nieces and nephews. Bev loved the ocean and her pool and gardens. Her beachcombing was legendary, and her sea glass collection lives on. There are also many beds and heads warmed by Bev -crocheted Afghan or hat.
Despite not having children of her own, Bev was a beloved “mom” and “grandmother” to her many nieces, nephews, and grands. She is predeceased by her husband Edwin, sister Judith Jakobsen, and Ann Eldred and brother Fredrick Froburg. She leaves behind her sister Wendy and husband Art Passero, their three children: Cynthia, Michael, and Clifford Passero, the daughters of her sister Judith: Victoria Kaiser, Terry Eaton, and Katherine Longo, as well as her brothers Frank, Phillip, and Thomas Froburg and their children and grandchildren. A light of Rye, she will be sorely missed by all who knew and loved her.
A memorial service will be held at Rye Congregational Church at 11 am on Saturday September 14, 2024.
