Derry, NH â Bruce Allen Thatcher, 77, of Derry, N.H. passed away Tuesday, September 12, 2017 at Parkland Hospital ICU. He was born in Providence, RI on December 12, 1939, the son of the late Leon I. and Althea (Tolhurst) Thatcher. He grew up in Providence and attended and graduated from Hope High School. He received his Executive MBA from Northeastern University in Boston. Bruce proudly served his country in the US Air Force. He worked in technology during his career, becoming a Marketing Vice President at NEC. He later was involved in three consulting firms: CDP (Connected Digital Peripherals) , CAP Ventures and Peripheral Insight. A devout Quaker, Bruce found great comfort and fellowship over the years at the Friends Meeting at Cambridge.
He is survived by his beloved wife Eileen Riley Thatcher; her three daughters, Patricia Riley of Brockton MA, Nancy Riley of Medford MA, and Dr. Kathleen Riley and her husband Zach McDowell of Chicago, ILL; his beloved grandson Teddy Riley; his nephew Robert Thatcher and wife Christine of Burlington, CT, and grand-nieces Lindsay of CT and Rachel Thatcher of RI, and grand-nephews Christopher Thatcher of CT and Zach Thatcher of Washington ; his niece Donna Ashley and husband Andrew of New York City He was predeceased by his wife Diane Thatcher, and his brother Donald Thatcher.
Bruce was a kind, smart and gentle man, who spent most of his working career in technology and knew a great deal about it. He also had a great interest in genealogy which he enjoyed especially in retirement, eventually traveling and doing research and finding out that he was a member of the Mayflower Society of descendants of those who came to America on the Mayflower. He loved music, especially jazz and classical and was an avid reader. He enjoyed volunteering in retirement with his wife Eileen, and they both were foster grandparents and did other things through Community Caregivers of Greater Derry.
ARRANGEMENTS: Following his wishes there will be a Funeral/Memorial Service at the Friends Meeting at Cambridge, 5 Longfellow Park, Cambridge on Saturday November 11 at 1 p.m. There will be a reception following the service at approximately 2 p.m. There will be a private burial on Friday September 29 at 11 a.m. at Pawtuxet Memorial Park, 100 Harrison Ave., Warwick, Rhode Island.
