On December 26, 2022, Candace "Candy" Cronin Babris passed away peacefully at Brigham and Women’s Hospital in Boston after a courageous struggle with cancer.
Born on June 25, 1951 in Old Town, Maine, Candace was one of nine children born to Joseph and Jacqueline Cronin. She grew up in Manchester, and later moved to New Jersey where she worked for 27 years at Rutgers University Hospital. She retired from her position at Rutgers in April of 2022 and moved back to Manchester to be near her extended family.
An avid reader, Candy shared her love of books and language with everyone she knew. Her quick wit and extraordinary vocabulary and use of language were her superpowers, and they made any encounter with Candy a meaningful and entertaining one. Her sensitivity, compassion, and generosity of spirit drew others to her. She made friends with everyone who crossed her path.
Candy is survived by her husband, Varis (Chuck) Babris; sisters Catherine Lennon, Paula Cronin and husband John Pagones, Patricia Ramsey and husband Peter, Mary Kaminsky and husband Chris, Jacqueline Leathers and husband Glen; brother Terry Cronin and wife Christine Ojendyk; brother-in-law Thomas Pappas; best friend Nanci Crosbie; nieces Meghan, Danielle, Caroline, Katie, Kelsey, Mary; nephews Daniel, Christian, William, Conall, Thomas, and Joseph as well as several grandnieces and grandnephews. Candy was predeceased by her sisters Susan Keating and Tracy Pappas and brother-in-law Otis Keating.
Private family services will be held in Candy’s memory.
