It is with heavy hearts that we announce the passing of Carey Alan Timmins, 84, who left us on Saturday, October 11, 2025. He was a beloved husband, father, grandfather, great-grandfather, brother, uncle, and friend whose kindness, wisdom, and unwavering love touched the lives of all who knew him.

Carey was born on September 22, 1941, in Concord, NH, and raised in Bow. He was the son of Arthur Joseph Timmins and Enid Althea (Richardson) Timmins. Carey spent many weekends and summers in Loudon with his grandparents, Clarence and Mary Irene Richardson.

A 1959 graduate of Concord High School, Carey enlisted in the United States Navy on September 17, 1959. He was stationed in Mayport, Florida, aboard the Midway-class aircraft carrier U.S.S. Franklin D. Roosevelt (CVA-42), serving as a Machinist Mate 3rd Class. He was honorably discharged from active service on August 21, 1962, and from the Naval Reserves on May 3, 1965.

Carey met the love of his life, Evelyn Mae Muzzey, at a dance at Bennett’s Barn. The two married on July 4, 1964, and built their home together in Loudon, where they raised their three children. Carey worked for Universal Packaging of Bow, NH for nearly 42 years before accepting a position as a Dam Control Operator with the NH Department of Environmental Services, Dam Bureau, in 2001. Even after retiring from full-time work, he continued part-time until late last year. He truly loved his job and often said he hoped to return—not because he needed to, but because he genuinely enjoyed it.

In addition to his full-time work, Carey found time to cut wood, mow fields for hay, maintain his land, and care for his many animals—dairy and beef cattle, horses, chickens, goats, dogs, and cats. He loved all animals.

He was deeply passionate about his role as a Hunter Safety Education Chief Instructor from 1968-2008, (40 years). It wasn’t uncommon for former students to stop him and say, “Hi Mr. Timmins, remember me? You were my Hunter Ed instructor.” Carey would smile and respond, “Yes, sure—how are you doing?”

Carey also enjoyed being part of the trap shooting team for Universal Packaging, played in the Bow men’s fast-pitch softball league, and coached Loudon Little League and Minors for many years—leading his teams to the NH All-Stars.

A lifelong motorcycle enthusiast, Carey attended flat track races, ice riding events at Hoit Road, and motorcycle rallies in Laconia, Daytona, and Sturgis. He loved riding with his three children, his brothers-in-law Willis and Joe, nephews, and many dear friends. He and Evelyn also enjoyed traveling together in their motorhome.

Carey was known for his friendly nature, always ready for a good conversation and eager to lend a helping hand. He constantly put others before himself. There wasn’t much he couldn’t fix—or at least try hard to. He was rarely seen without a hot black coffee in his hand, and his family will fondly remember finding his coffee cups left on fence posts, the tractor, in the barn, near the recliner when watching his favorite old western movie or wherever he happened to set one down.

Carey is predeceased by his parents; his sister Sandra Ladd and her husband Willis; and his aunt Winnifred Richardson.

He is survived by his devoted wife of 61 years, Evelyn; daughter Gail Timmins and partner Chris Locke; sons Scott Timmins and wife Melissa, and Michael Timmins and partner Maegan Bruno. He also leaves behind his cherished grandchildren Blake, Madison, and Wyatt, great-grandson Jace; brother Ronald Spooner and wife Diane; brother James Timmins and wife Maureen; sister Sharon Spaulding and her late husband Eugene; and many beloved nieces, nephews, and cousins.

A Celebration of Life for Carey will be held at the family home in Loudon on Saturday, November 1, 2025, from 11:00 a.m. to 3:00 p.m., with a small service at 1:00 p.m.

Please bring any stories of Carey you’d like to share—we would love to hear them.
