Carmel E. Hoffmann

Carmel Elizabeth Hoffmann, a loving wife, mother, and grandmother, passed away on February 12, 2023 at the age of 90.

Originally from Medford, MA, Carmel was the daughter of Bernard Francis Dawley and Bertha Marie (Kennedy) Dawley. She was the youngest of her siblings, Celina (Sullivan), Bernard, and Brendan.

Carmel enjoyed a long career at the “Phone Company” where she met some her best friends. Eventually through these friends she met her first husband James Belanger. She moved to Dedham, MA where she raised her three children, Bea, Elizabeth, and Brian.

After the death of her first husband, Carmel then landed in Weymouth, MA to be closer to her best friend from the phone company, Pat Hart. It was in Weymouth where she met the next love of her life, Ed Hoffmann. Carmel and Ed loved traveling and taking train trips together all-over New England. During this time, they visited and fell in love with the town of Moultonborough, NH. It was here that Carmel and Ed married and happily settled down in a beautiful little home on the shores of Lake Winnipesaukee where they loved hosting friends and family. Carmel was famous for her cooking and made sure each and every visitor to her home never left hungry.

Eventually due to declining health, Carmel and Ed moved to North Attleboro, MA to be closer to family. For a few years they were able to live independently, but as time would have it, they would both need to move to a nursing home. Carmel lived at Madonna Manor with Ed for the last four years of her life.

Carmel is survived by her loving husband Edward Hoffmann and her three children, daughter Bea Belanger, daughter Liz Eblan, son in-law Gary Eblan, and son Brian Belanger and his wife Maureen (Knight), six grandchildren, Jimmy Eblan, Megan Belanger, Lexie Eblan, Alli Belanger, Haleigh Bolduc, Kevin Belanger and many nieces and nephews.

Per her request, a private graveside ceremony will be held for the family.

Carmel was a lifelong supporter of the United Service Organizations (USO) Where she herself had volunteered as a young woman. Donations may be made in her memory to https://www.uso.org/donate/memorial-donation with in-tribute cards mailed to Bea Belanger, P.O. Box 52. Wrentham, MA 02093.
