Carol Ann Baringer, 67, long time resident of Sunderland, Vermont, died peacefully on February 1, 2026, at the Jack Byrne Center for Palliative and Hospice Care at Dartmouth-Hitchcock Medical Center after a long illness.
Carol was born September 4, 1958, in Gloversville, New York, daughter of the late John E. and Ann (Tramontano) Baringer. A graduate of Gloversville High School, class of 1976, Carol earned a Bachelor of Science degree in Nursing from the College of Saint Rose and devoted her career to caring for others, including work at Bennington College, Southwestern Vermont Medical Center, and as a school nurse at Manchester Elementary Middle School in Manchester Center, Vermont, until retiring in 2017.
She is survived by her son, Forrest Baringer-Jones of San Francisco, California, and his wife, Hayley Beers of New York, New York; sisters Kathryn McCarter of McCordsville, Indiana, and Mary Ann Case (Tom) of Waltham, Massachusetts; brother John E. Baringer Jr (Maureen Ryan) of Ballston Spa and Cortland, New York; aunt Joyce (Baringer) Soule of Granby, Connecticut, and Englewood, Florida; and several nieces, nephew, grandniece, grandnephews, and cousins.
An avid outdoor enthusiast, Carol loved skiing, hiking, biking, and kayaking. A lifelong learner, Carol practiced playing the fiddle, yoga, and tai chi. She loved anime, manga, costuming for Comic-Con, music, dancing, and travelling.
A celebration of life will be planned in the Manchester, Vermont area in the coming months. Those who wish may make a memorial contribution to the Jack Byrne Center for Palliative and Hospice Care in Lebanon, NH. Carol’s family is grateful for their compassionate care and support shown by Carol’s friends over the last several years.
