Carol Lee (Michiels) Dunlap, beloved mother, grandmother, great grandmother and friend, passed away at Concord Hospital on October 5, 2021. She was born September 28, 1932, in Newburyport, Massachusetts, the only child of Walter and Amelia (Titcomb) Michiels.

Carol grew up in Manchester, graduated from Central High School, and attended Lassell Jr. College, where she received her Associates Degree in Merchandising.
She met her late husband David working at the New England Telephone Company. They married and lived in Bedford where they had 2 daughters; Jill and Jody. After moving to Claremont, she discover her talent and love of painting Early American decorating.

Carol’s creativity was encouraged as a teenager when she took watercolor painting lessons at the Currier Art Gallery and won awards for her work. Her passion for painting continued when she moved to Concord with her young family. She began giving lessons in her home, then moved her teaching to a studio where she continued with her art. She was a member of Strawbery Banke Chapter of Historical Society of Early American Decoration from which she received multiple awards for superior craftsmanship, taught classes and performed demonstrations of her craft. She became a juried member of the New Hampshire League of Craftsman and enjoyed a few summers having a booth at the Sunapee Craftsman Fair.

She was a member of the Junior Service League and never missed an opportunity to be involved behind the scenes with making and painting the scenery for the children’s plays put on at the Annicchiarico Theater. Years later she continued to enjoy painting scenery for the Concord Community Players.

She worked for several agencies including Century 21, J.Hampe Associates, and Norwood Real-estate in addition to her partnership with Watson and Dunlap Realtors. A proud moment was when she was recognized as 1997 Realtor of the Year, and served as President and Director of the Board of Realtors at the Concord office.

When Carol wasn’t walking land or showing houses, she served on the Board and was a Trustee of Concord Hospital. She also gave her time to the Greater Concord Chamber of Commerce. She helped with the Restoration of the Gold relief work that surrounds the stage at the Concord Auditorium.
She was proud to be a member of the South Congregational Church in Concord.
Being a member of Kiwanis brought her great joy, especially during fair days as she loved working the ticket booth.

After retirement she was a volunteer for the Friends Program with her beloved dog Anthony as part of a reading program in the Concord schools. She loved serving as an usher for the Capital Center for the Arts.

Carol’s priority was always her family, she loved parties, dancing, chocolate, dressing up for Halloween, being a queen and most of all; sharing all her historical family knowledge to her Great-Grandchildren for who she cherished dearly.
