Listen to Obituary

Carol Louise (Bone) MacCourt, 88, passed away on Tuesday, September 19, 2023 at Linda Manor in Leeds, Massachusetts. She was born on December 30, 1934 in Porterville, CA, to the late Finis Ewing and Beatrice (Hamilton)Bone.

After graduating from San Rafael High School in California, Carol married Donald V. MacCourt, a musician who she met while they were both members of the Marin Symphony Orchestra, she an oboist and he a bassoonist. Carol and Don both attended San Francisco State College and later they relocated to the East Coast, where they bought a house in Westwood, NJ and adopted their baby son, David. Carol decided to return to school, earning a Bachelor's degree in Radiologic Technology from Manhattan College and a Masters Degree in Education from Columbia Teachers College. Carol then entered the field of education as a teacher of radiologic technology, first in hospital-based programs and later as an Assistant Professor for the City University of New York at New York City Technical College. Carol stayed in this position until her retirement in 2004, when she moved to Greenfield, MA to be near her son and his family.

Carol spent much of her time as a caregiver for her two grandchildren, and also participated for many years in Five College Learning in Retirement, a peer-led seminar and workshop program. Carol was an avid Ancestry amateur genealogist, and had traced her family lines back many, many generations. She enjoyed puzzles, especially the New York Times crossword and sudoku, as well as mystery novels. She was an avid tennis and baseball fan, and a lover of Romantic-era operas.

Carol is survived by her son David MacCourt, daughter-in-law Marianne Lockwood, her grandsons Henry MacCourt and Lucas MacCourt; and Sister LouAnne Martin, and Nephews David and Paul Martin.
