Carole M. Brown, of Epsom, New Hampshire, passed away peacefully on October 18, 2024, with her family by her side. She was 82 years old.
Carole was born on June 6, 1942, in Washington, D.C., the daughter of Mary C. (Dromgoole) Amadon and William F. Young. She spent the early part of her life in the Boston area, later residing in Northwood and Manchester, New Hampshire, where she graduated from Manchester Central High School in 1960.
As a teenager, Carole displayed remarkable artistic talent, and performed with her beloved step-father, Russell Amadon, drawing caricatures on stage. Having raised her family in her earlier years, she eventually earned a Certificate in Fine Arts from the New Hampshire Institute of Art in 2000. Carole leaves a legacy of beautiful drawings and paintings.
When Carole moved to Epsom with her daughters in 1976, she found her calling as a volunteer EMT with the Epsom Fire Department, eventually attaining the rank of Captain, and serving her local community for almost two decades.
She was passionate about giving back to her community. Carole served two terms in the New Hampshire State House of Representatives, focusing on helping the communities of Epsom, Pembroke and Allenstown recover from the historic Mother's Day floods. She was a library trustee for the Town of Epsom, as well as serving on the Planning Board as an alternate. Carole was also a member of the Epsom Historical Society. She was instrumental in saving the Epsom Baptist Church, and moving the historic building for future use as a community center. In 2017, Carole and her husband Ken were honored as Citizens of the Year for their service to the Town of Epsom.
Carole owned and operated the Ye Olde Cobweb shop for many years. She also loved spending time with her family and many friends, spending hours knitting, crafting and sharing her talents.
Carole was predeceased by her parents, her sister, Janice Holman, her brother, Paul Young, and her stepdaughter, Laurie Brown. She is survived by her husband of 46 years, Kenneth Brown, of Epsom; her sisters: Sharon Young-Boughton (& David) of Ireland, Kerry Jackson (& Brian) of Winter Haven, Florida, and Gretchen Bums (& Greg) of Buford, Georgia; her daughters: Kathleen Lockwood of Bethlehem, Patricia McKerley of Manchester, Susan Guptill (& Kerry) of Barnstead, and Judith Dunham (& Allan) of Grafton; stepson, Kenneth Brown, of Spokane, Washington; 12 grandchildren, 26 great-grandchildren, and several nieces and nephews.
