Carolyn Elizabeth McDonough, age 75, of Franklin, NH passed away peacefully with her husband by her side in Concord, NH, on May 22, 2017. She was born on May 23, 1941, in Somerville, Massachusetts, to Dorothy and Joseph Sweeney. Carolyn was a longtime resident of Bristol, New Hampshire and Kennebunk, Maine. Carolyn and her husband Bill, opened several restaurants together in Bristol, NH, The Village Inn, Wellington Inn, Villa Garden, The Patio and The Homestead Restaurant. Carolyn is known for her culinary expertise, menu creation, decorating and quietly running the operations from behind the scene.
Carolyn loved spending time with her family and treasured her moments with her grandchildren. Many of Carolyn's precious memories included collecting treasures on the beach, building sandcastles, attending the performances and sporting events of her grandchildren and appreciating the moments spent with each of her loved ones. She enjoyed journeys to the ocean and winters in Florida. Her favorite travels included several cruises and trips to Ireland and Italy. Carolyn and Bill took pleasure and pride in acquiring, transforming and selling many pieces of real estate. A woman of many hobbies, she loved painting with watercolors especially the landscapes in which she traveled, the most challenging crossword puzzles, spending time in her gardens, love of mystery novels and baking for her family. Carolyn will be remembered for teaching her family about motivation, perseverance and incredible work ethic. Carolyn was generous with her time, her valued advice and her hugs, her smiles and most of all, her kindness. She will be missed dearly by her family and friends.
Carolyn is survived by her husband William "Bill" McDonough of fifty-seven years, four sons and two daughter-in laws, Mark McDonough of Concord, NH, Steven McDonough and wife Mary of Wilton, NH, Michael McDonough and Elizabeth Smith of Bedford, NH, Christopher McDonough and wife Elizabeth of Gilford, NH, eleven grandchildren Kyle, Sean, Kevin and Brett McDonough, Sadie and Abby McDonough, Brittany and Ryan McDonough and Matthew, Riley and Andrew McDonough, a sister Joanne Allen of Bailey Island, Maine. She is predeceased by her brother, Ronald Sweeney.
A Celebration of her life will be held from 5:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. Wednesday, May 31, 2017 at Fratello's Restaurant, 155 Dow Street, Manchester, NH 03101.
