Carolyn G. Mohney, 85, of Bainbridge, NY passed away on October 24, 2023, after a brief but fierce fight with a sudden illness.
She was predeceased by her husband of 56 years, Donald, in 2020; two brothers, Foster Bullis (Lavina) of Afton,NY and Ritchie Bullis (Dorothy), of Nineveh NY, a forever remembered cousin, Janet Bellusci of Demarest, NJ, and a faithful dog, Lark.
Born November 18, 1937, in Hancock, NY, she was a farmer, a former librarian, a lifelong reader and gardener, loved “real” country music and the Eagles, was a cross-stitch artist and had a longstanding passion for family genealogy.
She was the daughter of William “Gil” and Wilma Bullis and, with their help, ran her own dairy farm from 1969 until retiring in 1989. Before it was the norm, she pushed back at the patriarchy of the banking industry by pursuing owning and financing her own business. In recent years she became very vocal about women’s reproductive rights.
She is survived by her daughter, Kathleen Pell (Randy) of Marlboro VT ,where she spent her last hours; her loving grandchildren - Sierra Rain (Will Streeter), of Leydon MA; Dakota Pell, of Waterbury VT; Elijah Pell, also of Waterbury Vt; and Cooper Pell of Marlboro VT; 3 great grandchildren- Brody and Diem LaRock and Ivy Streeter; her sister, Marilyn Thomas (Donald) of Windsor, NY, a very special second cousin, Jeffrey Bellusci of Demarest, NJ, and several close nieces and nephews.
She was blessed to have found a loving friendship late in life in two very special neighbors, Doc and Geri Lake, of Bainbridge NY.
Carolyn was a strong woman who remained independent and courageous until her final moments. She will be lovingly remembered and greatly missed.
In lieu of flowers, please find ways to support local farms and farmers, cancer research and vote for measures that support women’s autonomy and food and healthcare for families and children.
A graveside gathering of family and close friends at Riverside Cemetery in Long Eddy NY is planned. Date to be determined. The Cremation Society of New Hampshire has been entrusted with arrangements.
