Cathy Marie
Grybos
May 7, 1985 – May 17, 2026
Cathy Grybos of Claremont, aged 41, died from breast cancer May 17, 2026, at hospice care in Lebanon, NH.
She was the proud mother of twins, a son Alexander and a daughter Athena, born in 2015 at Dartmouth Hitchcock Memorial Center in Lebanon, NH. She took great joy in yelling from the sidelines at their sports games. Cathy also enjoyed laughing at sitcoms with her family and baking banana bread.
She is survived by her husband, Johnathan Grybos, her brother, Michael Boyd and her mother, Lisa Boyd.
Born Cathy Boyd in Plattsburgh, NY, she graduated Plattsburgh High School in the class of 2004. Her photo was on the Most Likely to Succeed page in her senior yearbook. She earned a varsity letter by running on the track and field team.
She earned her Bachelor’s at SUNY Plattsburgh, and graduated with a Criminal Justice major in 2008. She went on to use her degree as a State of Vermont Department of Corrections Caseworker at the Southern State Correctional Facility (SSCF) in Springfield, VT.
Work was very important to Cathy. She started working at 14 years old, bussing tables at the Knights of Columbus in Plattsburgh. She also worked in Plattsburgh at the Cornelia Street McDonald’s and the Stewart’s on Route 3. During her future husband’s internship in Albany, NY, Cathy worked in the New York Capitol cafeteria.
After college, Cathy spent some time as a security guard at the Clinton Community College dorms and then the Wyeth/Pfizer plant in Rouses Point, NY. She attended the Vermont Correctional Academy in 2012 and moved to Bellows Falls, VT, briefly to work at SSCF before settling in Claremont, NH.
Cathy was a Correctional Officer at SSCF before becoming a Community Correctional Officer at Springfield Probation and Parole. Seeking a more family-friendly schedule for her toddler twins, she then worked as a case manager at Health Care Services and Rehabilitation in Springfield. She had a short tenure working for New Hampshire’s Division of Children, Youth and Families before returning to SSCF as a caseworker.
Cathy will be cremated and a remembrance service will be held soon for friends and family in Springfield, VT.
Assisting the family with arrangements is the Cremation Society of NH, Boscawen. To view Cathy's Online Tribute, send condolences to the family, or for more information, visit www.csnh.com.
