Charles S. Dow, 87, of Lempster died July 19, 2002 at Genesis Eldercare in Lebanon after a lengthy illness. Mr. Dow was born on January 25, 1915 in Detroit, Michigan the son of the late Charles and Alice B. (Cook) Dow. He was a U S Army Veteran who served during World War II. Mr. Dow was employed as a machinist for Joy in Claremont for over 15 years. He was very active in the community of Lempster. In the early 1950's he was a school teacher and taught general education to 1st through 8th graders. He was a former selectman for many years and also served as a building inspector. For a brief period Mr. Dow was a police officer and was on the Lempster Fire Department. He was also one of the original developers of the Lempster Long Pond Area. Family members include; four sons, Charles W. Dow of Fremont, NH, Bernard Whiting Jr., of Georgia, Michael Whiting of Florida and Dan Whiting of Newport, NH; five daughters, Diane McNally of Georgetown, MA, Darlene Morse of Lempster, NH, Faye Murgatory of Newport, NH, Carol Whiting of Newport, NH and Debi Whiting of Florida; many grandchildren and great grandchildren; one brother, Melvin Dow of Maine; one sister, Lucy Phinney of Ontario, Canada; and many nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by his first wife, Marion Giberson in 1969 and by his second wife, Linda Towns Whiting in 1999. Services will take place at a later date.
