Charles H. Gamble

Charles H. Gamble, 89, died peacefully at home in Rochester, NH with his family around him on December 26, 2005. Born June 24, 1916 in Worcester, MA to William H. and Lily (Stott) Gamble, he was their only child. Charlie grew up in Waltham, MA and graduated from Waltham High in 1934. He was accepted to Tufts University Dental School, but dropped out to support his family during the depression. Married in 1941 to Barbara A. Miller they had two children, Marilyn (Lynne) Gamble Weston of North Hampton and Bruce W. Gamble of Bethlehem. After the death of Barbara in 1963 he married Doris R. (Ericson) Bailey and gained another son William C. Bailey of Rindge. Charlie was an accomplished clarinet/sax player and toured with jazz bands after high school until the early 40’s while holding day jobs as a machine shop foreman and a portrait photographer. He also worked in insurance and owned and operated the Zermatt Inn in Twin Mountain NH where he embarked on another career as a chef. He continued his passion for photography until recent years and has left a lasting legacy of wonderful visions of New England and the Southwest where he and Doris lived for ten years. In addition to his children and wife Doris, he leaves behind his son-in-law Charles Weston, daughter-in-law Barbara Gamble, five grandchildren and two great grandsons. He was pre-deceased in 1989 by his granddaughter Heather Gamble. According to the family’s wishes there will be no formal services or flowers. Those who wish may donate to a music or photography school or program of their choice or to Seacoast Hospice.
