Charles Norman LeBuff Jr., AKA “Buff”, left behind a legacy of compassion and impact. He was known for his calm, cool, and collected demeanor and always made a lasting impression on everyone he met. Charlie was a caring son, brother, husband, father, uncle and grandfather.
He is the son of Patricia and Charles “Norman” LeBuff, grew up in Newburyport, MA and was a second-generation Newburyport High Graduate. He went on for an undergraduate degree in Human Services and then a Master’s in Education to support his life-long work supporting young people.
Through his years of social work both within and outside of school systems, he was an advocate for overlooked and vulnerable students. He worked with young people for 24 years through the Harbor Schools and Family Services in the greater Newburyport area. More recently he was the principal at the Northshore Education Consortium, Topsfield Vocational Academy. He retired in 2022, but continued to advocate for and mentor young people in need. His ability and commitment to creating connection and support for those he cares for will be deeply missed by all who had the privilege of knowing him.
Charlie enjoyed music, vegetable gardening, working in the yard, and especially a spirited political debate with friends. He was passionate about sports, and is an owner of the Green Bay Packers and was a UNH Hocky season ticket holder for over 20 years.
Charlie is survived by his family, including his wife of 44 years, Robyn LeBuff; daughters, Haley Proto (husband, Justin) and Brianne LeBuff (fiancé, Nick); grandchildren, Brielle and Weston Proto; and siblings, Lisa Knight (husband, Stephen) and George LeBuff (wife, Faye).
He passed away May 18, 2024, surrounded with the love of his family at Portsmouth Regional Hospital.
ARRANGEMENTS: No funeral or memorial service will be immediately planned. The family will notify loved ones when the celebration of life is scheduled.
