Cheryl "Sherry" Mastromarino

Cheryl “Sherry” A. (Carter) Mastromarino, 66, of Exeter, received her wings on April 15, 2023 at the Hyder Family Hospice House.

Born in Gloucester, MA, on November 16, 1956, she is the daughter of the late George F. and Ruth (Knowlton) Carter. Sherry was a long-time resident of Gloucester, MA, before settling in Amesbury, MA. Sherry worked for many years at Rule Industries in Magnolia, MA and the Platts in Essex, MA before becoming a Certified Nursing Assistant in New Bedford, MA. In 2004, she met the love of her life, Joseph “Joe” Mastromarino. Together, they settled in Exeter, marrying in 2009. Once she relocated to Exeter, Sherry focused on volunteer work at the Exeter River Coop Association. A former director of multiple committees and President of the board, Sherry organized countless holiday parties, special events, pool parties, and even bake sales for the children and residents of the community.

A loving wife, sister, aunt, and friend, Sherry’s family and community were paramount in her life. Sherry loved to garden, filling her deck with beautiful blossoms she grew from seed each season. Known for her infectious smile and rich laughter, Sherry always told others “Don’t forget to smile!”. A lung cancer survivor, Sherry often referred to herself as “Sherry Miracle”. While she remained in remission, the damage from her cancer caused her health to decline. In August 2022, she entered hospice and was faithfully cared for by her doting husband, Joe. As her condition worsened, Sherry entered the Hyder Family Hospice House, Dover, where she was made comfortable and passed peacefully on April 15, 2023. Sherry will be best remembered for her zest for life and love of family.

Sherry is survived by her husband, with whom she shared of 14 years of marriage, Joseph Mastromarino; sister, Vickie McCassie of Amesbury, MA; three brothers, Wayne Carter of Milo, Maine, Michael Carter and wife Susan of Hampton, NH, and George “Freddie” Carter and wife Ann Marie of Gloucester, Ma; sister-in-law, Roberta Carter; nieces and nephews, Ruth McCassie, Bethany Marks-McCassie, Jennifer Stanton, Michael “Mikey” Carter, Wayne Carter, Jeannine Russell, Donnielee Patterson, Ryan Carter, Alyssia Carter, Hannah Lee, Nia Stevens, and Kara Campbell; and great nieces, great nephews, and extended family and friends.
