Chester
Annis
October 18, 1951 – March 28, 2026
Chester "Chet" O. Annis Jr., 74, passed away peacefully at home on Saturday, March 28, 2026, following a courageous battle with cancer.
Born in Portland, Maine, the son of Chester O. Annis Sr. and Dorothy Burns Annis, and the youngest of their four children, Chet spent his younger years in South Portland before moving to Standish. He was a graduate of Bonney Eagle High School, Class of 1970. He went on to earn a B.A. in Psychology from the University of Maine and a Master’s in Psychology from the University of Kansas in Wichita, eventually settling in Northern New Hampshire.
Chet dedicated over 40 years to mental health and addiction counseling, serving for many years as the Clinical Director at the Mental Health Center in Berlin and the Director of Psychology on the psychiatric unit housed at AVH. His lifelong dedication was recognized by NHADACA with a Lifetime Achievement Award for his work in alcohol and drug addiction counseling. He took great pride in mentoring fellow clinicians as a Clinical Supervisor and Board Member of NHADACA, guiding many toward their certificates and professional licensure.
An avid outdoorsman, Chet found peace in the woods, hunting, fishing, snowmobiling, and four-wheeling. He was a passionate outdoor photographer and had a deep, lifelong love for his dogs.
He is survived by his beloved wife, Darla Annis, and his son, Chester Annis III (Chet). He is also survived by his brother, Richard Annis; his sisters, Sandra Keenan and Sue Roth; and numerous nieces, nephews, and their families. He was predeceased by his parents, Chester O. Annis Sr. and Dorothy Burns Annis.
