IN LOVING MEMORY OF
Chong Cha
Nigg
February 3, 1940 – March 22, 2026
Chong Cha Nigg, 86, of Bellingham, Massachusetts, passed away peacefully on March 22, 2026, after a courageous battle with ovarian cancer.
Born on February 3, 1940, in Sanju, South Korea, Chong Cha immigrated to the United States in 1973 and later settled in Billerica, MA, where she raised her family with her husband, Robert Nigg. This move signaled the beginning of a new chapter marked by resilience, sacrifice, and hope.
Chong Cha spent much of her career at GTE Labs in Waltham, MA, where she worked in semiconductor fabrication. As a technician, she played a hands-on role in building integrated circuits, working in cleanroom environments and contributing to the precise processes behind wafer production. Her work reflected her discipline, attention to detail, and strong work ethic.
A woman of deep faith, Chong Cha was a devoted member of Saint Antoine Daveluy Korean Parish. She cultivated meaningful friendships throughout the parish, particularly through her involvement in the Legion of Mary, which became a lasting and significant part of her life. Her faith was a guiding presence, reflected in her humility, compassion, and service to others.
She is lovingly remembered by her husband, Robert Nigg of Bellingham, MA; her son, Gary Nigg of Harvard, MA, and his sons, Tyler and Trevor; her late son, David Nigg, and his wife, Jennifer Nigg of Merrimack, NH, and their daughters, Valerie and Emma; and her sister, Kye Taylor of Hudson, NH.
Honoring Chong Cha’s wishes, her passing will be observed quietly, without formality. Her family invites all who knew her to remember her in a spirit of simplicity and peace, true to the way she lived her life. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made in her memory to St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital or the Jimmy Fund, Dana-Farber Cancer Institute.
A small Korean Yeondo service for close friends and family will be held on April 19th following the 11:00 AM Mass at Saint Antoine Daveluy Korean Parish, 45 Ash Street, Newton, MA.
