Choo J. Whyte, 74, of Newbury, MA passed away on January 30, 2022 in Portsmouth, NH. She was surrounded by loved ones and family.
Choo lived an independent life full of adventures, and there was never a dull moment for those who knew her. She dedicated her youth to helping others, serving in the Peace Corps in Brazil and raising five wonderful children. She had a unique education beginning at Westlake High School (1965), and carrying on throughout her life atthe Fashion Institute of Technology (1967), the University of Maine, Orono (1993), and the Ringling College of Art and Design (2005). Her adulthood was spent searching for happiness that involved many exploits to include (but not limited to) farming, horticulture, garden design, entrepreneurship and antique collecting: she had many brilliant ideas that were often ahead of the times. She enjoyed painting watercolors, sewing family keepsakes, gardening, bird watching, cooking Old World recipes, music, fashion design, and collecting curiosities. She harbored a deep love for animals; wild and domestic. Especially Cairn and Scottish terriers, dairy cows, donkeys, goats, hummingbirds, bluebirds, crows, and the occasional skunk. She was a local character on the flea market scene who always found a bargain, and enjoyed telling stories to any listening ears. Her sense of humor was indelible and she enjoyed an elaborate practical joke. Christmas Eve in particular was always special to her as she enthusiastically watched her grandchildren laugh at the thoughtful and humorous gifts she created.
She was immensely proud of and is survived by her five children: David, Colin, James, Adam and Ingrid. Her eleven grandchildren: Luca, Cameron, Lachlan, Maclean, Anabelle, Isabella, Matheson, Harper, Zoë, Poppy and Jack. As well as her siblings: Janet, Judy and Rob.
Although she has passed from this world, her spirit will live on in the memory of those she touched. Her determination to keep fighting, despite any obstacles placed before her, made her an inspiration to us all.
Flowers
They are fleeting.
They are fragile.
They require
little water.
They’ll surprise you.
They’ll remind you
that they aren’t
and they are you.
A service for family and friends will be held in July 2022 in accordance with her wishes. Those who wish to make a memorial contribution please do so to the MSPCA, National Audubon Society, or Scottie Kingdom Rescue.
