Christine Maria Ojendyk (Hoerl) passed away peacefully, following a brief illness, on January 17, 2018 at Mount Carmel Nursing Home.
Christine was born in Zell am See, Austria on October 9, 1930 and grew up as the youngest of six children. She met her husband of 58 years, Robert Theodore Ojendyk, in Saalfelden where her parents owned the Stockinggut Hotel and Restaurant. They married in Zell am See on April 2, 1955 at St. Hippolyte's Church.
Prior to settling in New Hampshire in 1971, Christine and Robert moved over 20 times living in multiple states and throughout Europe for his Army career. It was in New England, that her love for the ocean was born, and visiting the many nearby beaches became her favorite destinations.
Christine had a great eye for beauty and aesthetics, whether through her love of antiques, art and décor or her colorful garden and flower arrangements. Her home was a source of great pride and joy for her, particularly as she entertained guests at Christmas time and treated them to her delicious Austrian specialties. As an independent woman, she enjoyed the freedom of driving her red VW Rabbit!
Through community service at St. Catherines' Christmas Fair, she made many friends, created beautiful decorations and shared her popular German Apfelkuchen.
Christine's grandchildren especially enjoyed her skill at card and memory games and baking scrumptious cookies. They treasured their many visits with her as she made each one feel special through exploration of their interests.
Christine was predeceased by her beloved husband Robert and her five siblings. She is survived by her two daughters, Theresia Crossman and her husband Michael Crossman of Manchester, NH and Christine J. Ojendyk and her husband Terry Cronin of Hopkinton, NH. She was the devoted grandmother of Angela Crossman, Kelly Olsen, Shawn Crossman, Ryan Crossman, Maria Crossman, Michael Crossman and Conall Cronin and nine great-grandchildren.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be held on Saturday, January 27th at 12:00 PM at Saint Catherine's Church, 207 Hemlock St., Manchester, NH. Relatives and Friends are kindly invited.
In lieu of flowers, a donation in Christine's memory may be made to St. Joseph's Community Services- Meals on Wheels, 395 Daniel Webster Hwy. Merrimack, NH 03054.
