Claire Marie Black

Claire Marie Black passed away with her daughters at her sides, on December 22, 2021, 12/22/21, at Lowell Hospital in Massachusetts.

Claire Black was born Claire Marie Zeigler in 1940 in Brookline, Mass. to parents Joseph and Gertrude Zeigler.  After marrying her husband of 53 years, John Black, in 1963, they quickly left the east coast by car and landed in sunny Southern California.  They lived in Southern California for 35 years, with a small stint in Waukegan, IL.  They lived in Mission Viejo, CA for most of the time, where Claire had a career as a bank teller and account manager.   She also held several other side jobs including, house cleaner, retail customer service rep, and library helper, all to make sure her family never went without.

Claire and John decided to move to NH to be near her family for the last 20+ years of her life.   Claire was known by her daughters as the hardest working, involved mother, that kicked breast cancer’s butt (2 times), and the “glue” that held the family together.   She enjoyed singing in the church choir and chatting with anyone who would listen.  She is known for her very welcoming and feisty personality and could make friends wherever she went.

She is survived by her daughters, Karen Russell and Colleen Weingarten, and brother, Robert Zeigler, and 5 grandchildren.  Her husband, John Black, passed away in 2016, and she will be interred with him at the New Hampshire State Veteran’s cemetery in Boscawen, NH in the spring.

SERVICES: A memorial will be held in the Spring after it is safe to gather friends and family together again.  Her daughters will let her family and friends know the details when it is safe to plan.
