Clara Hawthorne, age 91, passed away at Merrimack County Nursing Home in Boscawen, NH, on March 30, 2015. She was predeceased by her husband Bob in 2006. She resided with and was cared for by her daughters Sandy Pasho and Nancy Young and her son-in-laws until 2013 when she entered The Merrimack County Nursing Home. Her daughters and granddaughter Rachel Young continued to be very involved with her care until her passing.
She was born on May 15, 1923, in Sanbornton, NH, to Elsworth and Esther (Cummings) Harris. She graduated from Franklin, NH High School and the New England Baptist Hospital School of Nursing in Boston.
She was married to Robert Hawthorne in 1946 and they spent most of their married life in White River Jct., VT. As a registered nurse, she worked at Mary Hitchcock Memorial Hospital and at the Veterans Hospital in White River Junction, VT until she retired in 1973. In 2004 she and her husband moved to her daughter's home in Hartland, Vt.
Clara was predeceased by her parents, her husband, sisters Lurlene Harris, Miriam Corson and Edna Libby and grandson Andrew Pasho. She is survived by her daughters Sandy (Chet) Pasho of Hartland, VT and Nancy (Kevin) Young of Chichester, NH, four grandchildren and eight great-grandchildren.
Her relationship with God through Jesus Christ was the most important part of her life. She attended The West Lebanon Baptist Church for many years. Clara and her husband faithfully supported many missionaries.
Clara was steadfast in her faith in Christ. Her faith, perseverance and kindness were some of the many lessons she taught others by her example. Over the years, she treated many young adults as her family, providing home cooked meals and establishing life-long relationships. She brought joy to her family, friends and the staff of Merrimack County Nursing Home. Of all of her accomplishments she will be remembered most for her priceless life lessons and values she instilled in her children and grandchildren that will continue for generations.
We would like to thank Stacey Daitch, Director of Nursing, her many wonderful caregivers, the nursing staff, Gail Ela, Faith Flint and Cheryl Joseph, Jen Jewett, Erin Parry and the OT Dept at the Merrimack County Nursing Home, Boscawen NH for their support and outstanding care. We would like to also thank Dr. Vadalia and Cathy Daniels at Generations in Manchester NH, Ginny Wright at Crossroads Family Medicine, Concord, NH and Dr. Adam Schwarz, Hanover Continuity Clinic Hanover, NH for their support and wonderful care.
Clara requested graveside services for the immediate family. Interment will follow in Franklin, NH.
